Luke 24:3

This verse is part of the account of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. It takes place on the third day after Jesus was crucified and buried. The passage describes an event where a group of women, who were followers of Jesus, went to the tomb early in the morning to anoint Jesus’ body with spices.

In the preceding verses, Luke 24:1-2, it says:

Luke 24:4-5 continues the account:

“And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments: And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead?”

As the women were trying to make sense of the empty tomb, two angels appeared to them in radiant clothing. The angels questioned why the women were looking for the living among the dead. They were pointing out that Jesus had risen from the dead, fulfilling the prophecies and His own promises.

Luke 24:6-7 further states:

“He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee, Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.”

The angels reminded the women of Jesus’ teachings, emphasizing that He had foretold His death and resurrection. They were encouraging the women to remember and understand the significance of what had taken place.
