Luke 4:43

Posted on 18 May at 14:08

And hee said vnto them, I must preach the kingdome of God to other cities also: for therefore am I sent. Luke 4:43 (KJV)

And he said unto them,

I must preach the kingdom of God to other cities also: for therefore am I sent. Luke 4:43 (KJV)

Luke 4:43 is situated in the larger narrative where Jesus returns to Galilee after His temptation in the wilderness. He begins teaching in the synagogues and quickly gains popularity among the people. In this verse Jesus explains His purpose and mission to the crowd.

Jesus states, “I must preach the kingdom of God to other cities also: for therefore am I sent.” This declaration reveals the central purpose of His earthly ministry—to proclaim the kingdom of God. His mission was not confined to a single locale or a particular group; He intended to bring the good news of God’s kingdom to as many cities and towns as possible.

The kingdom of God, as Jesus repeatedly taught, refers to the reign and rule of God in the hearts and lives of people. It is a spiritual reality where God’s authority is recognized and embraced. In His preaching, Jesus included teaching about repentance, forgiveness, salvation, and the principles of God’s reign.

The significance of this mission lies in its focus on salvation rather than merely performing miracles or gathering followers. Jesus came to invite people into a personal relationship with God, demonstrating divine love and the desire for all to experience His kingdom.

For believers today, Luke 4:43 serves as a reminder of the importance of sharing the gospel and the kingdom of God. Just as Jesus was sent to preach, Christians are called to be ambassadors of God’s kingdom, actively spreading the good news of salvation through Jesus Christ and sharing God’s love, forgiveness, and redemption with those around them.

Jesus’ words also emphasize the universal scope of His mission. It was not limited to a specific region or ethnicity; He came for both Jews and Gentiles, and the message of the kingdom is meant for everyone. This underscores the inclusiveness of the gospel and the fact that salvation is available to all who believe.

In conclusion, Luke 4:43 highlights Jesus’ purpose to preach the kingdom of God to other cities. It calls believers to participate in God’s redemptive work by actively engaging in the spread of the gospel, embracing the universal reach of His mission, and inviting all people to experience the reign of God in their lives.
