Luke 5:25

“Immediately he rose up before them, and took up that whereon he lay, and departed to his own house, glorifying God.”

Context:Luke 5:25 is part of a larger passage that describes the healing of a paralyzed man by Jesus. In this story, Jesus was teaching in a house, and the crowd was so large that there was no room left for anyone else to enter. Four men carried a paralyzed man on a stretcher and, unable to reach Jesus, they lowered him through the roof into the presence of Jesus. Recognising their faith, Jesus forgave the man’s sins and also healed him physically.

The Miracle of Healing:In this verse, the focus is on the reaction of the paralyzed man after Jesus healed him. The man immediately rose up, indicating his instantaneous healing. This event demonstrates the power and authority of Jesus to heal both spiritual and physical ailments. It reveals Jesus’ compassion and his ability to transform lives.

Glorifying God:The verse concludes by saying that the man glorified God. This response is significant because it acknowledges that the healing he received was a divine act, not merely a natural occurrence. The man recognised that God was at work through Jesus and responded by praising and giving glory to God. His act of glorifying God is a testimony to the transformative power of encountering Jesus.

  • Faith in Jesus:can lead to both spiritual and physical healing. The paralyzed man’s friends demonstrated their faith by going to great lengths to bring him to Jesus. We too can approach Jesus with faith, believing that he has the power to heal and transform our lives.
  • Gratitude:should characterise our response to God’s blessings. Like the healed man, we should acknowledge and appreciate the goodness of God in our lives, expressing our thankfulness for what he has done for us.
  • Glorifying God:is an appropriate response to his work in our lives. As we recognise God’s hand at work in our circumstances, we should respond with praise, worship, and giving glory to his name.

Luke 5:25 reminds us of the miraculous power of Jesus to heal and transform lives. It teaches us the importance of faith, gratitude, and giving glory to God for the work he does in our lives.
