Luke 9:48
And said unto them, Whosoever shall receive this child in my name receiveth me: and whosoever shall receive me receiveth him that sent me: for he that is least among you all, the same shall be great.

Context
In Luke 9:46-47, the disciples argue about which of them will be the greatest. Jesus responds by taking a child and setting him beside Himself, using the child as a living illustration of humility and lowliness of mind. The child represents not age but a spirit that is free from pride, haughtiness, and ambition for worldly honor.
Meaning
Jesus says, “Whosoever shall receive this child in my name receiveth me.” To receive such a child in His name is to welcome and care for one who is humble and lowly, not for status or reward, but because of Christ. Jesus identifies Himself with the lowly, so that welcoming them is welcoming Him. He then adds, “and whosoever shall receive me receiveth him that sent me.” This reveals the close relationship between Jesus and the Father: Jesus is the sent One, and receiving Him means receiving the Father who sent Him. The verse concludes, “for he that is least among you all, the same shall be great.” Greatness in God’s kingdom is not measured by power, authority, or position, but by humility, service, and a willingness to put others before oneself.
