Mark 1:11

Context
This verse is part of the account of Jesus’ baptism. In Mark 1:9, Jesus came from Nazareth to be baptized by John the Baptist in the Jordan River. As Jesus came up out of the water, the heavens opened, and a voice spoke from heaven. This voice was the voice of God the Father, who spoke audibly to affirm the identity and purpose of Jesus.
Meaning
God’s declaration, “Thou art my beloved Son,” identifies Jesus as His Son in a unique sense. Jesus is not merely a prophet or teacher; He is the Son of God, possessing divine nature and a special role in God’s plan of salvation.
