Mark 5:24

And Iesus went with him, and much people followed him, and thronged him. Mark 5:24 (KJV)

And

Jesus went with him; and much people followed him, and thronged him. Mark 5:24 (KJV)

Mark 5 opens with Jesus and His disciples crossing the Sea of Galilee and arriving in the region of the Gadarenes. There Jesus encounters a demon‑possessed man who is miraculously healed and delivered from a legion of demons, leaving the people astonished and fearful of this display of power. After that encounter Jesus and His disciples return to the other side of the sea, and as they disembark a large crowd gathers around Him, eager to see and hear Him.

In verse 24 a man named Jairus approaches Jesus. Jairus is identified as a ruler of the synagogue, indicating his social status within the Jewish community. He falls at Jesus’ feet and implores Him earnestly, saying that his young daughter is at the point of death and asking Jesus to come and heal her. The phrase “Jesus went with him” highlights the compassion and willingness of Jesus to respond to the urgent request of Jairus. Despite being surrounded by a large crowd, Jesus agrees to accompany Jairus to his home.

The second part of the verse states, “much people followed him, and thronged him.” The word “thronged” indicates that the crowd pressed around Jesus closely, almost to the point of being overwhelming. The people were eager to witness His miraculous works and receive His teaching. While the verse itself does not mention a crowd following Jesus, the surrounding narrative makes clear that many people were present and keen to witness His miracles and hear His teaching.

This passage highlights both the compassion of Jesus in responding to Jairus’ plea and the intense interest of the surrounding crowd in His ministry. It underscores the deep impact of Jesus’ ministry on the lives of those around Him and serves as a reminder of Jesus’ ability to meet our needs and the profound impact He has on those who come to Him. Overall, Mark 5:24 captures a moment where Jesus responds to the urgent request of Jairus, demonstrating His compassion and willingness to help. It also emphasizes the large crowd that gathered around Jesus, eagerly seeking to witness His miracles and hear His teachings. The intense interest and large following illustrate the deep impact of Jesus’ ministry on the lives of those around Him.
