Mark 5:25

“And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years,”

Certainly! Let’s do a Bible study on Mark 5:25 in the King James Version (KJV). This verse is part of a larger passage that tells the story of Jesus healing a woman with a flow of blood. Here is the verse in question:

In this passage, Jesus is on His way to the home of Jairus, a synagogue leader, to heal his daughter who is gravely ill. On the way, a large crowd follows Jesus, pressing in around Him. In the midst of the crowd, there is a woman who has suffered from a flow of blood for twelve years.

Context:

This woman had been dealing with a hemorrhage for twelve long years. Her condition not only caused physical discomfort but also made her ritually unclean according to Jewish law. Her continuous bleeding would have separated her from the community and restricted her participation in religious activities. Despite her situation, she heard about Jesus and believed that if she could just touch His clothes, she would be healed.

The Woman with the Issue of Blood:

The woman’s faith is evident in her actions. She reaches out and touches Jesus’ cloak, firmly believing that she will be healed. Her faith is not in the garment itself but in the power and authority of Jesus. This demonstrates the woman’s confidence that even a touch of His garment would bring about her healing.

Faith in Jesus’ Healing Power:

As soon as the woman touches Jesus’ cloak, her bleeding stops, and she feels in her body that she has been healed. Jesus also perceives that power has gone out from Him, and He turns to ask who touched Him. The disciples are surprised by His question, given the large crowd pressing against Him. But the woman, trembling with fear, comes forward and confesses what she has done.

Immediate Healing:

Jesus commends the woman for her faith and assures her of her healing. He says to her, “Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace and be whole of thy plague” (Mark 5:34, KJV). Jesus not only heals her physically but also restores her to a state of wholeness and grants her peace.

Jesus’ Response:

This passage highlights the power of faith and the compassion of Jesus. The woman’s faith in Jesus’ ability to heal led her to take action, and her persistent faith resulted in her miraculous healing. It demonstrates that Jesus cares for individuals, even in the midst of a large crowd, and is willing to stop and acknowledge their faith.

Lessons from the Passage:

Additionally, this story emphasizes that Jesus’ healing power extends beyond physical ailments. By calling the woman “daughter” and granting her peace, Jesus shows His desire to restore her to a place of honor and well-being within the community.
