Matthew 22:29

“But Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.”

Jesus answered and said unto them:Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God. Matthew 22:29 (KJV)

In this verse, Jesus is responding to the Sadducees, who had questioned Him about the resurrection. The Sadducees were a Jewish religious sect that denied the resurrection, and they were trying to trap Jesus with a hypothetical scenario involving marriage and the afterlife.

Jesus begins His response by rebuking them, saying, “Ye do err.” He then explains the reason for their error, stating that they do not know the Scriptures or the power of God. This statement carries an important lesson for us today as well.

The Importance of Knowing the Scriptures:Jesus emphasizes the significance of knowing the Scriptures. The Sadducees, despite being well-versed in religious matters, lacked understanding because they didn’t have a proper grasp of God’s Word. This highlights the necessity for believers to be knowledgeable about the Scriptures. Studying and understanding the Bible helps us discern truth from error, grow in our faith, and align our lives with God’s will.

The Power of God:In addition to knowing the Scriptures, Jesus points out that the Sadducees were also ignorant of the power of God. The power of God encompasses His ability to work miracles, transform lives, and accomplish His purposes. By disregarding the concept of resurrection, the Sadducees were underestimating God’s power and His ability to bring about life after death. As believers, we should never underestimate the power of God. He is capable of doing far beyond what we can imagine or comprehend.

This verse serves as a reminder that true understanding and wisdom come from knowing the Scriptures and recognizing the power of God. It encourages us to study the Bible diligently, seek God’s truth, and develop a deep relationship with Him. By doing so, we can avoid error and grow in our knowledge and faith.

Please note that this interpretation is based on the King James Version of the Bible and may vary slightly when compared to other translations.
