Numbers 7:15

One young bullock, one ram, one lamb of the first year, for a burnt offering:

Numbers 7:15 (KJV)

Numbers 7:15 belongs to the account of the dedication of the altar after the tabernacle was set up. The leaders of the twelve tribes of Israel each brought an identical offering on twelve successive days. This verse records the first part of the offering brought by the leader of the tribe of Issachar. The young bullock, the ram, and the lamb of the first year were for a burnt offering, a sacrifice that symbolized the worshiper’s complete dedication to God.

The burnt offering was entirely consumed by fire on the altar. It expressed total surrender and devotion to the Lord. The three animals carried distinct meaning: the young bullock represented strength and vitality, the ram stood for leadership and provision, and the lamb signified innocence and purity. The phrase “of the first year” meant the animals were in their prime and without blemish, fit for a holy sacrifice. Each tribe gave the same offering, showing that all tribes stood equal before God and shared equally in worship.

The sin offering, mentioned in the following verse, was offered in addition to the continual burnt offering and its drink offering. The continual burnt offering was a daily sacrifice, morning and evening, that showed ongoing commitment to God. The drink offering was wine poured out beside the burnt offering. Together these offerings taught that dealing with sin and seeking forgiveness came before continuing regular worship. The burnt offering also pointed forward to Jesus Christ, who offered Himself completely and without blemish for the sins of the world.

This verse calls believers to give God their best, not what is leftover or weak. Wholehearted devotion means offering strength, leadership, and purity in daily life. It also reminds us to confess sin and receive God’s forgiveness through Christ before approaching Him in worship. True worship involves both surrender and repentance.

Consider what you bring to God. Does your worship reflect complete dedication, or only part of your life? The equality of the tribes reminds us that every believer has a place in God’s family and a duty to worship Him fully. Christ’s perfect sacrifice makes our offering acceptable, and His example calls us to present ourselves wholly to the Father.
