Philippians 2:19

Posted on 18 May at 14:19
Listen to this article

“But I trust in the Lord Jesus to send Timotheus shortly unto you, that I also may be of good comfort, when I know your state.”

This verse is found in the book of Philippians, which was written by the Apostle Paul while he was imprisoned.

In this particular verse, Paul expresses his confidence in the Lord Jesus and his plan to send his trusted companion, Timothy, to the Philippians.

Here are some key points we can draw from this verse:

  • Trust in the Lord Jesus:Paul begins by emphasizing his trust in the Lord Jesus. This statement shows Paul’s reliance on Jesus’ guidance and provision in his ministry. It also reflects Paul’s faith and confidence in Jesus’ ability to work through Timothy as he sends him to the Philippians.
  • Sending Timothy:Paul intends to send Timothy, one of his faithful disciples and co‑workers, to the Philippians. Timothy had accompanied Paul on several of his missionary journeys and had proven himself as a reliable and trustworthy minister of the gospel. Paul’s decision to send Timothy demonstrates his concern for the spiritual well‑being of the Philippians and his desire to provide them with encouragement and support.
  • Seeking Comfort:Paul expresses his desire to be of comfort to the Philippians. He states that he would be encouraged when he receives news about their state or condition. This reveals Paul’s deep love and care for the Philippians and his longing to see them thriving in their faith. It also reflects the mutual comfort and encouragement that Paul and the Philippians shared as they supported one another in their spiritual journeys.

Overall, Philippians 2:19 highlights Paul’s trust in Jesus, his intention to send Timothy to the Philippians, and his longing to find comfort in their well‑being. This verse reminds us of the importance of trust in the Lord, the value of faithful companions in our Christian walk, and the significance of offering comfort and encouragement to fellow believers.
