Philippians 3:21

Listen to this article

“Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.”

Context:This verse is a part of the Apostle Paul’s letter to the Philippians, where he encourages them in their faith and shares his own perspective on righteousness and the pursuit of Christ. In Philippians 3:21, Paul discusses the transformation of our physical bodies and aligning them with the glorious body of Christ.

The transformation of our vile body: The term “vile” refers to our current earthly bodies, which are subject to decay, weakness, and sin. Paul acknowledges that our bodies in their current state are affected by the fallen nature of this world. However, he assures believers that a change is coming.

Fashioned like unto his glorious body:Paul points to the future transformation of our bodies, where they will be conformed to the likeness of Christ’s glorious body. This transformation implies a complete restoration and renewal, free from the limitations and imperfections of our earthly bodies.

The working of Christ’s power:Paul emphasizes that this transformation is made possible by the power of Christ. The same power that raised Jesus from the dead and enabled Him to overcome sin and death is at work in believers. It is through this power that our bodies will be transformed to be like Christ’s glorious body.

Christ’s ability to subdue all things:Paul declares that Christ has the power to bring all things under His control. This includes the transformation of our bodies and the restoration of all creation. It signifies Christ’s ultimate authority and sovereignty over all aspects of life.

Overall, Philippians 3:21 reminds believers of the hope they have in Christ. Our present bodies may be weak and subject to the effects of sin and decay, but we look forward to a future transformation where we will receive glorified bodies like that of Christ. This transformation is made possible through the power of Christ, who has the ability to bring all things under His control.

By focusing on this hope, believers are encouraged to live with an eternal perspective, striving to align their lives with the values and teachings of Christ, and eagerly awaiting the day when they will experience the fullness of the promised transformation.
