Proverbs 21:30

Posted on 18 May at 15:09

“There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the LORD.”

Context:Proverbs is a book of wisdom literature in the Old Testament, primarily written by King Solomon. It contains practical advice for righteous living and explores various aspects of human behaviour and their consequences.

Wisdom and Understanding:In Proverbs, wisdom is portrayed as a precious attribute that comes from God. It involves living in alignment with God’s truth and principles. Understanding refers to the ability to discern knowledge and apply wisdom in practical situations.

Human Counsel:The verse acknowledges that people may offer advice or counsel based on their own understanding and wisdom. However, it asserts that no matter how sound or persuasive human counsel may seem, if it contradicts the ways and will of the Lord, it ultimately lacks true wisdom and understanding.

Submission to God:The verse teaches the importance of submitting our own wisdom and understanding to God’s higher wisdom. It reminds us that God’s ways are perfect, and His counsel is reliable and trustworthy. Seeking His guidance and aligning ourselves with His purposes brings about true wisdom and understanding.

Trusting God’s Wisdom:The verse encourages us to place our trust in the Lord and His divine wisdom. It urges us to rely on His guidance and seek His counsel in all aspects of our lives. By doing so, we acknowledge that God’s wisdom far surpasses our limited human understanding and that His plans are ultimately for our good.

  • Humility:The verse reminds us to approach life with humility, recognizing that our human wisdom is limited. We should be open to seeking God’s guidance and aligning ourselves with His will.
  • Discernment:We should exercise discernment when receiving counsel or advice from others. We should evaluate it in light of God’s Word and seek wisdom that aligns with His principles.
  • Trust in God:Rather than relying solely on our own understanding, we should trust in God’s wisdom and seek His counsel through prayer, studying His Word, and seeking guidance from mature believers.
  • Obeying God:To live in alignment with God’s wisdom, we need to submit ourselves to His will and obey His commands. This involves surrendering our own desires and seeking His guidance in decision-making.
