The robbery of the wicked shall destroy them; because they refuse to doe iudgement. Proverbs 21:7 (KJV)

Context: Proverbs is a book of wisdom in the Old Testament that offers practical guidance for living a righteous and meaningful life. It contains various sayings and observations on topics such as wisdom, righteousness, relationships, and the consequences of our actions. Proverbs 21:7 focuses on the destructive consequences of the wicked and their refusal to pursue justice.

The robbery of the wicked: The verse speaks of “the robbery of the wicked.” This refers to the ill-gotten gain or unjust acquisition of wealth by those who engage in wicked or unrighteous actions. It highlights the immoral and unethical ways some people may resort to in order to accumulate wealth or possessions. The violence of the wicked: This refers to the physical force or oppression employed by those who engage in unrighteous actions. It highlights the harmful and unjust methods some people use to acquire wealth or power.

Destruction as a consequence: The verse states that the robbery of the wicked will lead to their destruction. While it doesn’t explicitly specify the nature of this destruction, it implies that the consequences of their wickedness will catch up with them. This destruction can manifest in various forms, including physical, emotional, or spiritual ruin. Ultimately, it signifies the judgment and punishment that awaits those who persist in their wickedness.

Refusal to do judgment: The verse also mentions that the wicked refuse to do judgment. This indicates their deliberate rejection of justice and righteousness. It implies that they actively choose to ignore moral principles, fairness, and the well‑being of others. Their refusal to do what is right and just contributes to their downfall and eventual destruction.

Lessons and applications: The verse serves as a reminder that dishonesty, oppression, ill‑gotten gain, and wickedness ultimately lead to ruin. It highlights the importance of pursuing righteousness and integrity in all aspects of life. It emphasizes the significance of justice and doing what is right. As individuals, we should strive to make decisions and take actions that align with godly principles and promote justice in society. The verse also encourages us to examine our own lives and attitudes. Are we pursuing righteousness and justice, or are we compromising our values for personal gain? It challenges us to evaluate our actions and make the necessary changes to align ourselves with God’s standards.
