Listen to this article

The hay appeareth, and the tender grasse sheweth it selfe, and herbes of the mountaines are gathered. Proverbs 27:25 (KJV)

The book of Proverbs is a collection of wise sayings and teachings attributed to King Solomon, known for his wisdom. This verse is part of a larger section that addresses themes such as diligence, wisdom, and stewardship.

In this verse the imagery is agricultural. It mentions the turning up of hay, the emergence or gathering of tender grass, and the gathering of herbs from the mountains, noting that the herbs are provided only by the LORD. These elements serve as metaphors that convey deeper spiritual lessons.

The principle of diligence is highlighted by the appearance of hay and the gathering of grass, underscoring the need for consistent effort and dedication to achieve desired outcomes. The verse therefore emphasizes the importance of hard work and careful labor.

The reference to gathering herbs from the mountains implies responsible management and wise planning, while also recognizing that ultimate provision comes from God. This teaches the value of foresight, intentional stewardship, and reliance on divine provision in utilizing the resources and opportunities before us.

Although rooted in agricultural practice, the principles apply to our spiritual lives. Believers are called to be diligent in their relationship with God, consistently seeking Him and nurturing their faith through prayer, study, and obedience to His Word.

The passage also points to a season and timing for every endeavor. Just as hay appears and grass is gathered in due time, believers should exercise patience, trust God’s timing, and avoid haste or discouragement, continuing faithfully while awaiting the fruits of their labor.

The mention of herbs highlights the importance of seeking wisdom and knowledge. By drawing insight from the heights of God’s truth, we become better equipped to navigate life’s challenges and make wise decisions.

In conclusion, Proverbs 27:25 (KJV) encourages diligence, stewardship, patience, and reliance on God’s provision. It reminds us that consistent effort, responsible planning, and trust in divine timing are essential in both our physical and spiritual pursuits.
