Proverbs 5:8

Posted on 18 May at 15:11
Listen to this article

“Remove thy way far from her, and come not nigh the door of her house:”

Context:The book of Proverbs is a collection of wisdom literature attributed to King Solomon, known for his exceptional wisdom. It offers practical guidance and moral instruction to help individuals navigate various aspects of life. Proverbs 5 addresses the importance of fidelity in marriage and warns against the allure and consequences of adultery.

Symbolic language:In this verse, the speaker advises the reader to distance themselves from a particular woman. Symbolically, this woman represents the seductive and dangerous allure of adultery. The verse emphasizes the importance of avoiding situations and circumstances that could lead to moral compromise.

“Remove thy way far from her”:The phrase “remove thy way” implies an active and intentional choice to stay away from the path that would lead to sin. It urges individuals to take decisive action by distancing themselves from anything or anyone that could potentially lead them astray.

“Come not nigh the door of her house”:This phrase further reinforces the previous advice by specifically warning against even approaching the proximity of the woman’s house. It advises individuals to avoid places or situations that could expose them to temptation. By avoiding the very entrance to her house, one can reduce the risk of succumbing to temptation and making unwise choices.

Application to life:While this verse uses the context of adultery, its underlying message applies to various areas of life beyond literal acts of infidelity. It serves as a broader reminder to steer clear of situations or people that may tempt us toward immoral or unwise behavior. It encourages us to exercise self-discipline and make choices that align with our values and God’s principles.

Overall message:Proverbs 5:8 teaches the importance of proactive avoidance when it comes to potential sources of temptation. It encourages individuals to take deliberate steps to remove themselves from environments and associations that may lead to compromising situations.
