Proverbs 7:15

Posted on 18 May at 11:22

Therefore came I forth to meete thee, diligently to seeke thy face, and I haue found thee. Proverbs 7:15 (KJV)

The passage in Proverbs 7 describes the encounter between a young man and an immoral woman, often referred to as the “strange woman” or the “adulteress.” This verse is part of that larger passage and the purpose of the passage is to warn against the dangers of succumbing to sexual temptation and the consequences that can result from such actions. In Proverbs 7, the woman speaks in a seductive manner and seeks to entice the young man, and she claims, “For now have I come forth to meet thee, diligently to seek thy face, and I have found thee.” While the exact wording of the verse is not found elsewhere, the text illustrates her determination and persistence in pursuing the young man, serving as a cautionary tale for readers. The broader context of this passage emphasizes the importance of wisdom and discretion in avoiding temptation and making righteous choices. The adulteress in this story represents the allure of sinful desires and the potential destruction they can bring. The passage encourages readers to resist the seductive advances of those who promote immoral behavior and to remain steadfast in their commitment to God’s commandments.

The importance of wisdom is highlighted as the chapter emphasizes the need to acquire wisdom and understanding to discern right from wrong and to make wise choices. Guarding against sexual immorality is stressed, warning of the temptation of sexual immorality and the potential personal and spiritual destruction it can bring. Avoiding seductive influences is urged, encouraging readers to be aware of and resist the advances of those who seek to lead them astray from God’s ways. The value of discipline and self‑control is underscored, showing the significance of self‑discipline and self‑control in resisting temptation and making godly decisions.

Overall, Proverbs 7 serves as a reminder to exercise caution and discernment when faced with alluring temptations, particularly those related to sexual immorality. It encourages readers to seek wisdom, adhere to godly principles, and avoid the paths that lead to destruction.
