Psalms 10:6

Posted on 18 May at 15:18

“He hath said in his heart, I shall not be moved: for I shall never be in adversity.”

Context:Psalm 10 is a psalm of lament that addresses the wickedness and arrogance of the enemies of God’s people. The psalmist expresses his distress and calls upon God to intervene and bring justice to the oppressed.

The Conceit of the Wicked: In this verse, the psalmist describes the attitude and mindset of the wicked person. They say in their heart, “I shall not be moved: for I shall never be in adversity.” This statement reveals their pride and self-assurance. They believe that they are invincible and immune to any harm or difficulty.

Self-Reliance and Arrogance: The wicked person relies solely on their own strength and resources, disregarding the authority and power of God. They trust in themselves, thinking they can handle any situation without the need for God’s help. Their confidence is rooted in their own abilities and achievements, leading to a sense of arrogance and pride.

Ignorance of Adversity: The wicked person’s delusion extends to their denial of the existence of adversity. They refuse to acknowledge the reality of challenges, trials, or consequences for their actions. This mindset blinds them to the consequences of their wickedness and leads them further away from seeking God’s guidance and wisdom.

Trusting in God’s Sovereignty: While the wicked may boast in their self-sufficiency, as believers, we are called to trust in God’s sovereignty and acknowledge our dependence on Him. We should remember that our strength comes from the Lord, and it is in His power that we find true security. Adversity will come, but with God’s help, we can overcome and be sustained.
