Psalms 102:15

So the heathen shall feare the Name of the Lord: and all the kings of the earth thy glory. Psalms 102:15 (KJV)

Psalm 102 is a heartfelt prayer of an afflicted individual who pours out his soul before the Lord, seeking divine intervention and deliverance. The psalmist openly declares deep distress, physical weakness, and sorrow, yet even amid his suffering he finds solace in the eternal nature of God and in God’s faithfulness to future generations.

The verse in focus declares, “The heathen shall fear the name of the LORD, and all the kings of the earth thy glory.” This statement reflects the psalmist’s conviction that when God acts, His name will be revered by the nations and even the earthly rulers will acknowledge His greatness. The emphasis on the “name of the LORD” points to the character, authority, and reputation of God, which the psalmist expects to be exalted through divine intervention.

The second clause, “all the kings of the earth thy glory,” expands the vision to the highest seats of human authority. The psalmist envisions a universal impact: the fear of the Lord and the recognition of His glory will permeate every nation and reach the thrones of every kingdom. This universal scope shows that God’s actions are not limited to the psalmist’s personal plight but extend to all peoples and powers.

From this passage we draw practical applications. First, we are reminded of the power of God’s intervention in our own lives, especially in times of affliction; we can trust in His sovereign might. Second, we are called to pray earnestly for the nations, that the name of the Lord might be feared and His glory proclaimed among all peoples. Finally, we are urged to magnify God’s glory in our daily conduct, allowing His greatness to be reflected through our attitudes and actions.

To study this passage responsibly, we must examine its broader context within Psalm 102, cross‑reference related Scriptures, and seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit for a fuller understanding of God’s Word.
