Psalms 106:3

Posted on 18 May at 14:11

“Blessed are they that keep judgment, and he that doeth righteousness at all times.”

Context:The book of Psalms is a collection of poetic and lyrical expressions of praise, lament, and reflection. Psalm 106 is a historical psalm that recounts Israel’s history of rebellion, God’s faithfulness, and His deliverance. It serves as a reminder of God’s mercy and the importance of obedience.

Blessings for the righteous:The verse begins with the word “Blessed,” indicating that there are special benefits and favour from God for those who meet the conditions mentioned. The emphasis is on the character and actions of individuals.

Keeping judgment:“Keeping judgment” refers to practising justice and righteousness. It involves living in accordance with God’s moral law and treating others fairly. Those who make righteous judgments and decisions, upholding justice and equity, are blessed.

Doing righteousness:The verse further emphasises the importance of doing righteousness at all times. It implies consistent and continual obedience to God’s commands, even in difficult circumstances or when facing temptations. Righteousness involves aligning one’s thoughts, words, and actions with God’s standards.

The condition of “all times”:The phrase “at all times” underscores the need for unwavering commitment to righteousness. It implies a consistent lifestyle of obedience, regardless of the situation or the behaviour of others. This challenges us to be righteous not just occasionally or when it’s convenient, but consistently.

Application:The verse reminds believers of the value God places on justice, righteousness, and consistent obedience. It encourages us to evaluate our own lives and strive for a lifestyle characterised by integrity, fairness, and righteousness in all our dealings. It also serves as a reminder that God rewards and blesses those who are committed to living in obedience to His commands.

The ultimate fulfilment in Jesus Christ:While this verse is applicable to the righteous people of Israel, as Christians, we also understand its ultimate fulfilment in Jesus Christ. Jesus perfectly kept judgment and did righteousness at all times. Through faith in Him, we are credited with His righteousness, and His Spirit empowers us to live in obedience to God’s commands.
