Listen to this article

“Blessed be the LORD God of Israel from everlasting to everlasting: and let all the people say, Amen. Praise ye the LORD.”

Context:Psalm 106 is a psalm of praise and thanksgiving, recounting the history of Israel’s disobedience and God’s faithfulness. It focuses on God’s mercy, deliverance, and steadfast love throughout Israel’s journey.

Blessing the LORD:The psalmist begins by expressing blessings and praises to the LORD God of Israel. The word “blessed” means to speak well of, honour, or praise. This declaration acknowledges God’s greatness and His worthy nature of being praised.

God’s Everlasting Nature:The psalmist proclaims that the LORD God of Israel is from everlasting to everlasting. This declaration emphasises God’s eternal existence, indicating that He has no beginning or end. It highlights God’s transcendence beyond time and His unchanging nature.

Corporate Worship:The psalmist calls for all the people to join in saying “Amen” and praising the LORD. The word “Amen” signifies agreement, affirmation, or endorsement. It reflects the response of the community to acknowledge and affirm the blessings pronounced upon God. This verse encourages collective worship and the participation of all people in praising the LORD.

Praise ye the LORD:The psalm concludes with the phrase “Praise ye the LORD,” which is a call to praise or hallelujah. It’s an exhortation for everyone to give honour, adoration, and recognition to the LORD. The repetition of this phrase throughout the Book of Psalms emphasises the importance of continual praise and worship of God.

Overall, Psalm 106:48 is a declaration of blessing and praise to the eternal LORD God of Israel. It encourages the participation of all people in corporate worship, recognising God’s everlasting nature and calling for His praise and honour.
