Psalms 113:3

“From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the LORD’s name is to be praised.”

Psalm 113:3 (KJV) says: From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the LORD’s name is to be praised.

Context: The book of Psalms is a collection of poetic prayers and songs used in the worship of God. Psalm 113 is part of a group of psalms known as the “Hallel” psalms (Psalms 113-118), which were traditionally recited during Jewish festivals and celebrations.

Universal Praise: The verse begins by highlighting the extent of God’s praise. It declares that from the rising of the sun to its setting, the name of the LORD is to be praised. This emphasizes that God’s praise is not limited to a specific time or place but is meant to encompass the entire earth and all its inhabitants.

The Majesty of God: The phrase “the LORD’s name” refers to God’s character, attributes, and reputation. It encompasses everything that God is and all that He has revealed about Himself. The verse acknowledges the majesty and greatness of God, suggesting that His name deserves to be praised continuously and universally.

The Call to Praise: The verse is an exhortation to offer praise to the LORD. It implies that it is the rightful and proper response of all creation to honor and magnify God’s name. The psalmist calls on people from all walks of life and from all corners of the earth to join in praising the LORD.

The Permanence of God’s Praise: The phrase “from the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same” emphasizes the continuous and unceasing nature of God’s praise. It signifies that there should be no limits to our worship and adoration for God. Just as the sun rises and sets every day without fail, so should our praise for the LORD be constant and unwavering.

Application: Psalm 113:3 serves as a reminder that our praise and worship of God should not be confined to specific times or locations. It should be a lifestyle that encompasses every aspect of our lives. We are called to recognize and proclaim God’s greatness, goodness, and faithfulness throughout the day and throughout our lives.

  • In summary, Psalm 113:3 encourages us to offer continuous and universal praise to the LORD. It reminds us of the magnificence of God and calls us to acknowledge His greatness in our worship. May we always be diligent in glorifying and honoring His name from the rising of the sun to its setting.
