Psalms 118:14

Posted on 18 May at 11:22

The Lord is my strength and song: and is become my saluation. Psalms 118:14 (KJV)

The LORD

is my strength and song, and is become my salvation. Psalms 118:14 (KJV)

To better understand this verse, it is important to consider its broader context. Psalm 118 is a psalm of praise and thanksgiving, known for its emphasis on God’s steadfast love and faithfulness. While the psalm’s author is not identified in the heading, the psalm has been traditionally used in both Jewish and Christian worship.

The Lord is my strength: The psalmist declares that the Lord is their strength. This acknowledges the psalmist’s own weakness and the need for divine strength. The Lord is seen as the source of power that enables the psalmist to face challenges and overcome obstacles, reflecting a dependence on God’s provision and support.

The Lord is my song: Here the psalmist expresses that the Lord is their song, suggesting a deep, intimate relationship with God. The Lord’s presence fills the heart with gratitude and adoration, providing joy, inspiration, and a reason to praise Him, causing the psalmist to sing and rejoice.

The Lord is my salvation: In this statement the psalmist affirms that the Lord has become their salvation. “Salvation” refers to deliverance or rescue from distress, trouble, or enemies, and also points to the ultimate salvation God provides for humanity through His grace. The psalmist recognizes God as savior, protector, and deliverer.

Secondly, we are called to cultivate a heart of worship and praise, acknowledging God as our song. By focusing on His goodness, faithfulness, and love, we can find joy and contentment even in challenging circumstances. Our worship can extend beyond mere songs to a lifestyle that honors and glorifies God in all we do.

Lastly, we are invited to embrace God as our salvation. Through faith in Jesus Christ we can experience salvation from sin, receive eternal life, and hold the hope of reconciliation with God. We can also trust in God’s daily deliverance and protection, knowing He is with us and will see us through every trial.

In conclusion, Psalm 118:14 (KJV) reminds us of the Lord’s role in our lives as our strength, song, and salvation. It encourages us to depend on God’s strength, worship Him with joy and gratitude, and trust in His deliverance. May this verse inspire us to seek a deeper relationship with God and experience His transformative power in our lives.
