Psalms 119:20

Posted on 18 May at 15:13

“My soul breaketh for the longing that it hath unto thy judgments at all times.”

Context:This verse is part of Psalm 119, which is the longest chapter in the Book of Psalms and is known for its focus on the importance of God’s law and His Word.

The psalmist expresses deep devotion to God and a desire to follow His commandments.

In verse 20, the psalmist conveys a profound yearning for God’s judgments or His righteous decrees.

The word "judgments" refers to God’s laws, principles, and standards of righteousness.

The psalmist’s soul "breaketh," or faints, due to the intensity of their longing for God’s judgments.

This reflects the passionate and earnest desire within their heart to understand and live according to God’s will.

The psalmist’s longing for God’s judgments is not confined to certain times or situations but extends to "all times."

This demonstrates a commitment to seeking God’s truth and righteousness consistently, regardless of circumstances or personal preferences.

It reveals a desire for God’s Word to be a guiding light and a source of wisdom in every aspect of life.

As we study and meditate on God’s Word, we can develop a deeper understanding of His ways and align our lives with His principles.

This longing for God’s judgments at all times can lead to a life that is characterised by obedience, righteousness, and a closer relationship with Him.
