“He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber.”

Psalm 121:3 (KJV):The book of Psalms is a collection of songs and poems attributed to King David and other writers. Psalm 121 is known as a “Song of Ascents” and was likely sung by pilgrims as they traveled to Jerusalem for worship. It is a song of trust and confidence in God’s protection and care.

“He will not suffer thy foot to be moved”:In this verse, the psalmist expresses confidence in God’s steadfastness. The phrase “not suffer thy foot to be moved” means that God will not allow His people to stumble or fall. It indicates that God provides stability and support, preventing His people from being shaken or stumbling in their journey of faith.

“He that keepeth thee will not slumber”:This verse highlights God’s constant watchfulness and care. The phrase “will not slumber” emphasizes that God is vigilant and attentive at all times. It assures the reader that God never sleeps or takes a break from His role as the protector and keeper of His people.

Context:The book of Psalms is a collection of songs and poems attributed to King David and other writers. Psalm 121 is known as a “Song of Ascents” and was likely sung by pilgrims as they traveled to Jerusalem for worship. It is a song of trust and confidence in God’s protection and care.

Application and Interpretation:– Trust in God’s faithfulness: This verse reminds us that God is faithful and trustworthy. Just as a shepherd cares for his flock and ensures their safety, God watches over His people and guards their steps. We can rely on His unfailing presence and protection in our lives.

– Assurance in times of uncertainty: Life is filled with uncertainties and challenges. However, this verse assures us that God is with us, providing stability and security. We can find comfort in knowing that He will not allow us to be moved or overwhelmed by the trials we face.

– God’s unwavering watchfulness: The phrase “will not slumber” assures us of God’s continuous attention to our lives. He is not distant or disinterested but actively involved in our well-being. We can take solace in knowing that God is always alert and caring, even when we may feel alone or abandoned.

Connection to the New Testament:– Jesus as our ultimate protector: As Christians, we believe that Jesus Christ is the Good Shepherd who laid down His life for His sheep (John 10:11). He is our ultimate protector, who watches over us and keeps us from stumbling. Through faith in Him, we can experience the assurance and security that Psalm 121:3 speaks of.

– God’s faithfulness in Christ: The unwavering watchfulness of God mentioned in this verse finds its ultimate fulfillment in Jesus. Through His death and resurrection, Jesus guarantees our eternal security and provides us with the confidence that nothing can separate us from the love of God (Romans 8:38-39).
