Psalms 148:14

Posted on 18 May at 15:11
Listen to this article

“He also exalteth the horn of his people, the praise of all his saints; even of the children of Israel, a people near unto him. Praise ye the LORD.”

Context and Background:Psalm 148 is a hymn of praise that calls upon all of creation to praise the Lord. It celebrates the glory and majesty of God and emphasizes His sovereignty over all things. In verse 14, the psalmist focuses on God’s relationship with His people, particularly the children of Israel.

The Exaltation of His People:The verse begins by stating that God exalts the horn of His people. In biblical times, the “horn” symbolized strength, honor, and power. It was often used to represent the status and authority of a king or a nation. Here, it refers to God’s raising up or elevating the status of His chosen people, the children of Israel. God exalts them and bestows upon them His favour and protection.

The Praise of His Saints:The verse continues by mentioning the praise of all His saints. In the Bible, “saints” refer to God’s faithful and devoted ones-those who have been set apart for His service. Here, it emphasizes that all those who are devoted to God are called to offer praise and worship. God’s saints are to honour Him for His faithfulness, goodness, and love.

The Nearness of the Children of Israel:The verse goes on to describe the children of Israel as a people near to God. This proximity signifies the special relationship between God and the Israelites. Throughout the Old Testament, God chose Israel as His own people, making covenants and promises to them. The nearness denotes intimacy, favour, and the privilege of being in close communion with the Almighty.

Praise the LORD:The verse concludes with an exhortation to praise the LORD. The psalmist calls upon all to join in the worship and adoration of God. It is a reminder that praising the Lord is not only a privilege but also a response to His greatness, faithfulness, and mercy.

Overall, Psalm 148:14 highlights God’s exaltation of His people, the praise offered by His saints, the nearness of the children of Israel, and the call for all to praise the LORD. It invites believers to recognise God’s sovereignty, express gratitude for His blessings, and participate in the joyous act of worship.
