Psalms 150:6

Posted on 18 May at 15:11
Listen to this article

“Let everything that hath breath praise the LORD. Praise ye the LORD.”

1. Context: The book of Psalms is a collection of poetic songs and prayers that express a wide range of human emotions and experiences in the context of a relationship with God. Psalm 150 is the final psalm in the book and serves as a grand finale of praise and worship to God.

2. Universal Praise: The verse begins with the exhortation, “Let everything that hath breath praise the LORD.” This statement emphasizes that all living creatures have the privilege and responsibility to offer praise to God. It encompasses not only human beings but also all creation.

3. Praise as an Act of Worship: The verse emphasizes the importance of praise as an act of worship. Praise involves expressing admiration, adoration, and gratitude to God for who He is and what He has done. It is a response to God’s character, goodness, and mighty works.

4. The Nature of God: The psalmist calls for praise specifically to the LORD, the covenant God of Israel. This indicates that the praise should be directed towards the one true God who has revealed Himself to His people. It highlights the importance of recognizing and acknowledging God’s uniqueness, sovereignty, and faithfulness.

5. Praise Ye the LORD: The verse ends with the phrase “Praise ye the LORD,” which is a call to action. It is an invitation to engage in praising God individually and collectively. The phrase “Praise ye the LORD” is also a recurring refrain throughout the book of Psalms, serving as a reminder of the psalmist’s commitment to continuous praise and worship.

6. Application: Psalm 150:6 challenges us to recognize that praising God is not limited to specific times, places, or circumstances. It encourages us to cultivate a lifestyle of praise, where we acknowledge God’s greatness, offer thanksgiving, and lift our voices in worship.

7. All of Creation Praises God: This verse suggests that the praise of God should extend beyond humanity. It includes the entire creation, reminding us of God’s sovereignty over all things. The birds that sing, the waves that crash, the wind that blows-all of creation declares the glory of God.
