Psalms 24:10

Posted on 18 May at 15:17
Listen to this article

“Who is this King of glory? The LORD of hosts, he is the King of glory. Selah.”

Identifying the King of Glory:The verse begins with a question, “Who is this King of glory?” This question emphasizes the awe and wonder surrounding the majestic presence of the King. It invites us to reflect on the identity and attributes of the King.

The LORD of hosts:The answer to the question is given immediately, declaring that the King of glory is none other than “the LORD of hosts.” The term “LORD” in all caps represents the personal name of God, Yahweh, which signifies His self-existence and eternal nature. “Hosts” refers to the heavenly armies or angelic beings that serve and worship God. Together, “the LORD of hosts” portrays God as the sovereign ruler over all creation and the heavenly realm.

The King of glory:The verse concludes by restating that the LORD of hosts is indeed the King of glory. This repetition emphasizes the exalted status and splendor of God as the ultimate King. The term “glory” signifies His magnificence, honour, and divine radiance. It speaks of His majesty and the recognition that is due to Him.

Selah:The term “Selah” appears at the end of this verse and is found throughout the book of Psalms. Its exact meaning is uncertain, but it is generally understood to be a musical notation or a pause for reflection. It invites the reader or singer to pause and consider the preceding words, allowing the truth to sink in.

Overall, this verse expresses a profound recognition of God’s sovereignty and His glorious kingship. It prompts us to reflect on who God is, acknowledging His authority, power, and majesty. The repetition of the phrase “the King of glory” emphasises the significance and grandeur of God’s reign.

As we meditate on this verse, we can be reminded of God’s supreme authority over all things, both in heaven and on earth. It encourages us to approach God with reverence and awe, acknowledging His rightful place as the King of glory in our lives.
