Psalms 31:23

Listen to this article

“O love the LORD, all ye his saints: for the LORD preserveth the faithful and plentifully rewardeth the proud doer.”

Context:Psalm 31 is a heartfelt prayer of David in times of distress and persecution. In this psalm, David seeks refuge and deliverance from his enemies, expressing his trust in God’s faithfulness and protection.

Love for the Lord:The verse begins with an exhortation to “love the LORD.” Love for God is a central theme in the Bible, and it is a response to God’s steadfast love and faithfulness towards His people. Loving the Lord involves devotion, reverence, and wholehearted commitment to Him.

All ye his saints:The psalmist addresses all the saints, emphasizing that the call to love the Lord extends to every believer. In the Old Testament, the term “saints” refers to God’s people who are set apart for His purposes. In the New Testament, it refers to all who have put their faith in Jesus Christ.

The LORD preserves the faithful:God is depicted as the preserver and protector of the faithful. This assurance brings comfort and encouragement to believers who face trials and challenges in their lives. God’s faithfulness extends to those who remain steadfast and loyal to Him.

Plentifully rewards the proud doer:The verse also highlights God’s justice. While the Lord preserves the faithful, He will deal with the proud doers. Those who act arrogantly, opposing God and His ways, will face the consequences of their actions. God’s reward for the proud doer is a just retribution for their rebellion and wickedness.

Overall, Psalm 31:23 encourages believers to love and trust in the Lord, knowing that He will protect and reward the faithful while dealing justly with the proud and wicked. It reminds us of the importance of devotion to God and aligning our lives with His ways.
