O magnifie the Lord with me, and let vs exalt his name together. Psalms 34:3 (KJV)

Certainly! Let’s dive into a Bible study on Psalm 34:3 (KJV). Psalm 34:3 (KJV) says, “O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together.”

Context:

Author: The author of Psalm 34 is David, and it is attributed to him in the superscription.

Background: David wrote this psalm during a time when he was in great distress. He pretended to be insane before Achish, the king of Gath, to escape from his enemies (1 Samuel 21:10-15).

Theme: The overarching theme of Psalm 34 is the goodness and faithfulness of God, even in times of trouble.

Magnifying the Lord:

To “magnify” means to enlarge, glorify, or make something appear greater. In this verse, David invites others to join him in magnifying the Lord. It implies recognizing and acknowledging the greatness, power, and attributes of God. As humans, we cannot physically make God greater, but we can exalt and proclaim His greatness to others through our worship, praise, and testimony.

Exalting His Name Together:

“Exalt” means to lift up, elevate, or praise someone highly. David encourages others to exalt the name of the Lord collectively. It emphasizes the power and unity of worshiping God together as a community. By exalting God’s name together, believers can strengthen their faith, inspire one another, and bear witness to His goodness and grace.

Application:

Worship: We are called to actively participate in worship, magnifying and exalting God’s name. Through singing, praying, studying His Word, and expressing gratitude, we can lift up God’s name and honor Him.

Community: The verse highlights the importance of worshiping together as a community of believers. Regular fellowship and communal worship create an atmosphere of unity, encouragement, and shared praise.

Testimony: By exalting God’s name together, we have an opportunity to share our personal experiences of His faithfulness and goodness, which can impact and inspire others.

Related Scriptures:

Psalm 69:30 (KJV): “I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify him with thanksgiving.”

Psalm 95:6 (KJV): “O come, let us worship and kneel: let us bow down before the LORD, our maker.”
