For such as be blessed of him, shall inherite the earth: and they that be cursed of him, shalbe cut off. Psalms 37:22 (KJV)

For

such as be blessed of him shall inherit the earth; and

they that be cursed of him shall be cut off. Psalms 37:22 (KJV)

“For the blessed of the LORD shall inherit the earth; and they that be cursed of him shall be cut off.” This verse is found in Psalm 37, a wisdom psalm written by King David. The psalm offers guidance on how to live a righteous life and trust in God’s faithfulness, even when the wicked appear to prosper.

The psalmist declares that those who are blessed by God will inherit the earth. This inheritance is more than physical land; it signifies God’s provision, favour, and blessings bestowed upon the righteous. In biblical terms the promise of inheriting the earth symbolizes the ultimate reward and eternal life in God’s kingdom.

Conversely, those who are cursed by God are described as being cut off. The phrase denotes separation from God’s presence and blessings, indicating that persistent wickedness and rebellion will lead to loss of the privileged position of receiving His favour and protection.

This contrast serves as a reminder that God is just, rewarding righteousness while dealing with wickedness accordingly. The psalmist encourages the reader to place trust in God’s providence rather than become envious or disheartened by the apparent prosperity of the wicked. He emphasizes that God’s blessings and favour will ultimately triumph over the temporary success of those who oppose Him.

In the broader context of Psalm 37 the psalmist offers practical instructions for daily life: trust in the Lord and do good (verse 3); delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart (verse 4); commit your way to the Lord, trust in Him, and He will act (verse 5); be still before the Lord and wait patiently for Him (verse 7); refrain from anger and forsake wrath (verse 8); wait on the Lord and keep His way, and He will exalt you to inherit the land (verse 34). These verses collectively stress faith, obedience, and patient waiting for God’s timing and provision.

In summary, Psalm 37:22 highlights the destiny of the blessed versus the cursed. It calls believers to trust in God’s provision and justice, to live according to His commands, and to focus on His faithfulness, knowing that He will ultimately bring justice and reward to those who seek Him. The promise of inheriting the earth points to the eternal inheritance and reward awaiting the righteous in God’s kingdom.
