“All that hate me whisper together against me: against me do they devise my hurt.”

Psalm 41:7 (KJV) says: “All that hate me whisper together against me: against me do they devise my hurt.”

Context:

The Book of Psalms is a collection of poetic prayers, songs, and hymns attributed to King David and other authors. Psalm 41 is generally categorised as a psalm of lament, expressing the psalmist’s plea for God’s help and deliverance in times of illness or personal distress.

Hatred and Whispering Conspiracy:

The verse begins by highlighting the presence of individuals who hate the psalmist. These individuals gather in secret and whisper together against the psalmist. Whispering suggests secretive and malicious conversations, often fuelled by a desire to plot evil or harm.

Devise My Hurt:

The verse further reveals that the purpose of their whispered conversations is to devise ways to bring harm to the psalmist. They conspire to cause him pain, whether physical, emotional, or spiritual. It portrays a situation where the psalmist feels vulnerable and under attack from his enemies.

The Ultimate Deliverer:

Throughout the Book of Psalms, the psalmists often express their trust in God’s faithfulness and deliverance. Despite the psalmist’s enemies, he acknowledges God’s sovereignty and power to intervene on his behalf. The psalmist finds solace in knowing that God is aware of his circumstances and will ultimately bring justice and vindication.
