Psalms 45:12

Listen to this article

“And the daughter of Tyre shall be there with a gift; even the rich among the people shall entreat thy favor.”

The verse you mentioned, Psalm 45:12 (KJV), says:

This verse is taken from Psalm 45, which is a psalm attributed to the sons of Korah. It is considered a Messianic psalm that speaks of the glory and majesty of the King, who is seen as a type or foreshadowing of Jesus Christ.

In the broader context of Psalm 45, the psalmist is praising and extolling the virtues of the King. The psalm begins with a focus on the King’s beauty, grace, and power. It then moves on to describe the King’s righteousness, his victories in battle, and his authority over the nations. The psalm concludes with a call to worship and honor the King.

Verse 12 specifically mentions the daughter of Tyre. In ancient times, Tyre was a prominent Phoenician city known for its wealth and commerce. The reference to the daughter of Tyre can be understood symbolically as representing the nations or peoples who will come to honor the King and offer gifts to him.

The verse highlights that even the rich among the people, including the daughter of Tyre, will seek the favor of the King. This speaks to the universal appeal and authority of the King described in the psalm. It suggests that people from different nations and backgrounds will recognize the King’s greatness and willingly submit to his rule. It also implies that those who are rich and influential will humble themselves before the King and seek his favor.

From a Christian perspective, this verse can be seen as pointing to Jesus Christ, the ultimate King and Messiah. The New Testament often uses passages from the Old Testament, such as this psalm, to highlight the fulfillment of Messianic prophecies in Jesus. In the context of Jesus, the daughter of Tyre and the rich among the people can symbolize people from all nations, regardless of their social or economic status, who come to acknowledge Jesus as their Lord and Savior.

Overall, Psalm 45:12 emphasizes the universal authority and appeal of the King, portraying a vision of people from all walks of life seeking his favor. It invites us to recognize Jesus Christ as the ultimate King, who deserves our worship, honor, and submission.
