Psalms 63:11

“But the king shall rejoice in God; every one that sweareth by him shall glory: but the mouth of them that speak lies shall be stopped.”

Context:Psalm 63 is attributed to King David and is described as a psalm of David when he was in the wilderness of Judah. This particular verse, Psalm 63:11, highlights two contrasting outcomes based on one’s relationship with God.

Rejoicing in God:The verse begins by stating that the king shall rejoice in God. In this context, the king refers to David himself, who was an anointed king of Israel. It signifies David’s deep relationship with God and his personal delight in God’s presence. It is a recognition that true joy and satisfaction come from God alone. As believers, we can also find joy, strength, and contentment in our relationship with God.

Glory for Those Who Swear by God:The verse further states that everyone who swears by God shall glory. Here, “swearing by God” implies making oaths or commitments in the name of God, acknowledging His authority and faithfulness. It speaks of individuals who honor God, acknowledge Him as their ultimate authority, and trust in His promises. Such individuals will experience glory, which can refer to honour, blessing, or a manifestation of God’s favour in their lives.

The Mouth of Liars Stopped:The verse concludes by saying that the mouth of those who speak lies shall be stopped. This indicates that those who engage in falsehood and deceit will face consequences. It suggests that God will intervene to silence the mouth of liars and expose their falsehood. This serves as a warning against dishonesty, and it highlights God’s commitment to justice and truth.
