“I will praise thee, O LORD, with my whole heart; I will show forth all thy marvelous works.”

Psalm 9:1 (KJV) says: “I will praise thee, O LORD, with my whole heart; I will show forth all thy marvelous works.”

Context:

The book of Psalms is a collection of poetic songs and prayers attributed to various authors, including King David. Psalm 9 is a psalm of thanksgiving and praise to God for His righteous judgments and deliverance.

Praise and Worship:

The verse begins with an expression of the psalmist’s intention to praise the Lord. “I will praise thee, O LORD” emphasizes the psalmist’s personal commitment and desire to offer heartfelt praise and adoration to God. It reflects an attitude of gratitude and reverence toward the Lord.

Wholehearted Worship:

The psalmist declares that he will praise God “with my whole heart.” This statement highlights the psalmist’s sincerity and authenticity in worship. It signifies the psalmist’s intention to offer undivided devotion, love, and adoration to God, leaving no room for half-heartedness or superficiality.

Proclaiming God’s Works:

The psalmist also declares his intention to “show forth all thy marvelous works.” This indicates that the psalmist is not only praising God privately but also publicly proclaiming the marvelous deeds of God. The psalmist desires to share with others the acts of God’s goodness, faithfulness, and power. By doing so, the psalmist aims to inspire others to worship and acknowledge the greatness of God.

Application:

Psalm 9:1 encourages believers to approach worship and praise with a wholehearted commitment. It challenges us to offer genuine and heartfelt worship to God, recognizing His marvelous works in our lives. Additionally, it reminds us of the importance of sharing our testimonies of God’s faithfulness with others, being a witness to His power and goodness.

  • In summary, Psalm 9:1 emphasizes the psalmist’s determination to praise the Lord with a whole heart and to proclaim His marvelous works. This verse encourages us to approach worship and praise sincerely, acknowledging God’s faithfulness and sharing our testimonies with others.
