Psalms 90:14

Posted on 18 May at 15:14
Listen to this article

“O satisfy us early with thy mercy; that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.”

Context:Psalm 90 is attributed to Moses, the great leader of the Israelites. This psalm is a reflection on the eternal nature of God and the brevity of human life. Moses acknowledges God’s everlasting existence and power, contrasting it with the frailty and transience of human life.

Prayer for God’s Mercy:In verse 14, Moses prays for God to "satisfy us early with thy mercy." The Hebrew word translated as "mercy" can also be understood as "unfailing love" or "steadfast love." Moses acknowledges the need for God’s merciful and loving presence in their lives. He desires that God’s mercy would come to them promptly, bringing them comfort and fulfilment.

Satisfaction in God’s Mercy:Moses recognizes that finding satisfaction and contentment in life comes through experiencing God’s mercy. It is not in earthly possessions or achievements but in the unfailing love of God. By seeking God’s mercy, Moses understands that they will find true joy and gladness, which lasts beyond fleeting moments.

Rejoicing and Gladness:Moses prays that by being satisfied with God’s mercy, the people may "rejoice and be glad all our days." This request reveals the desire for lasting joy and gladness, not just momentary happiness. Moses understands that true fulfilment comes from a deep and abiding relationship with God.
