Psalms 94:7

Listen to this article

“Yet they say, The LORD shall not see, neither shall the God of Jacob regard it.”

1. Context of the Psalm: Psalm 94 is classified as a psalm of lament. The psalmist begins by expressing concern and distress over the wickedness and oppression prevailing among the people. The psalmist then calls upon God to act as the righteous Judge and bring justice to the oppressors.

Psalm 94:7 (KJV) says, “Yet they say, The LORD shall not see, neither shall the God of Jacob regard it.”

2. Understanding Psalm 94:7: In verse 7, the psalmist highlights the attitude of the wicked. They say, “The LORD shall not see, neither shall the God of Jacob regard it.” This verse reflects the arrogance and presumption of the wicked, who believe that God is either unaware or unconcerned about their actions. They think they can act with impunity, as if God’s eyes are closed to their deeds.

3. Insights and lessons from Psalm 94:7: God’s omniscience: The wicked in this verse wrongly assume that God does not see their actions. However, the truth is that God is all-knowing and fully aware of everything that happens. Psalm 139:1-2 says, “O LORD, thou hast searched me, and known me. Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off.”
God’s concern for His people: The wicked also believe that the God of Jacob does not regard their actions. However, the psalmist emphasizes that God does indeed care for His people and is attentive to their situation. Psalm 34:15 says, “The eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous, and his ears are open unto their cry.”
The folly of wickedness: The attitude of the wicked, thinking they can act without consequence, reveals their foolishness. Proverbs 15:3 states, “The eyes of the LORD are in every place, beholding the evil and the good.” The wicked may believe they can escape divine judgment, but their actions will not go unnoticed forever.
Encouragement for the righteous: This verse can also serve as an encouragement for the righteous who may be facing oppression or injustice. It reminds them that even though the wicked may boast that God does not see or care, the truth is that God is fully aware and will ultimately bring justice.

4. Application of Psalm 94:7: Trust in God’s omniscience: Remember that nothing is hidden from God’s sight. Even when it seems like wickedness goes unpunished, have faith that God sees and knows all things.
Seek justice: Like the psalmist, you can cry out to God for justice when faced with oppression or injustice. Trust that God is the righteous Judge who will ultimately bring about justice in His perfect timing.
Do not be discouraged: If you are facing opposition or witnessing the arrogance of the wicked, take heart in knowing that God sees and cares. Trust in His sovereignty and continue to walk in righteousness.
Pray for the wicked: Instead of harboring resentment or anger towards the wicked, pray for their repentance and transformation. Remember that God desires their salvation and offers forgiveness to all who turn to Him.
