For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheepe of his hand: to day if yee will heare his voyce, Psalms 95:7 (KJV)

The book of Psalms is a collection of poetic and worshipful songs attributed to King David and other writers, and Psalm 95 is a psalm of praise and exhortation, inviting people to worship and honour God. The verse begins by affirming that God is our God. It acknowledges the relationship between God and His people, emphasising the personal connection and ownership. As a shepherd, He has authority over us and cares for us like a shepherd cares for his sheep.

The verse continues by describing the people as “the people of his pasture” and “the sheep of his hand.” This imagery conveys the intimate and protective relationship between God and His people. It portrays God as a loving shepherd who guides, provides for, and nurtures His flock.

The verse ends with an invitation: “To day if ye will hear his voice.” This call to listen to God’s voice implies the importance of obedience and attentiveness to His leading. It highlights the significance of being responsive to God’s instructions, guidance, and teachings.

Overall, Psalm 95:7 emphasises the relationship between God and His people, underscoring His care, guidance, and the importance of listening to His voice. It calls us to worship and submit to Him as our Creator and Shepherd.

Application: This verse encourages believers to recognise and acknowledge God as their Creator and Shepherd. It reminds us that we belong to Him and that He cares for us. It also prompts us to be attentive and responsive to God’s voice, seeking His guidance and following His commands.
