Psalms 98:2

Listen to this article

“The Lord hath made known his salvation: his righteousness hath he openly shewed in the sight of the heathen.”

God’s Revelation of Salvation:The verse begins by stating, “The Lord hath made known his salvation.” It emphasizes that God has made His salvation known to humanity. Throughout the Bible, we see God’s plan of redemption unfold, culminating in the ultimate manifestation of His salvation through Jesus Christ. Through Christ’s life, death, and resurrection, God has revealed His salvation to the world, offering forgiveness and eternal life to all who believe in Him.

God’s Righteousness Manifested:The verse continues, “his righteousness hath he openly shewed in the sight of the heathen.” God’s righteousness refers to His perfect moral character and adherence to justice. Here, the psalmist highlights how God has openly demonstrated His righteousness before the heathen or Gentiles. This emphasizes that God’s righteousness is not limited to a specific people but is extended to all nations.

The Universal Nature of God’s Salvation:The mention of “the heathen” or Gentiles in this verse indicates that God’s salvation is not exclusive to a particular group but is available to people from all nations and backgrounds. This universal aspect of salvation is a recurring theme in the Bible, showing God’s desire for all people to come to Him and experience His redeeming grace.

A Cause for Praise:The overarching theme of Psalm 98 is praise and thanksgiving to God. This verse, like the entire psalm, calls for rejoicing and worship as it highlights God’s salvation and righteousness. It serves as a reminder to acknowledge and celebrate God’s faithfulness, expressing gratitude for His deliverance and the revelation of His plan of salvation.
