Listen to this article

“And the temple of God was opened in heaven, and there was seen in his temple the ark of his testament: and there were lightnings, and voices, and thunderings, and an earthquake, and great hail.”

Context:The book of Revelation is a prophetic book written by the apostle John. It contains visions and symbols that reveal God’s plan for the future, including the events leading up to the second coming of Jesus Christ.

The Temple of God:In this verse, it speaks of the opening of the temple of God in heaven. In the Old Testament, the temple was the dwelling place of God’s presence on earth. Here, it symbolizes the heavenly reality and the manifestation of God’s glory.

The Ark of His Testament:The ark of the covenant was a sacred container in the Old Testament that housed the stone tablets of the Ten Commandments, symbolizing God’s covenant with Israel. In this verse, the ark is seen in the heavenly temple, emphasizing the continuity of God’s covenant and His faithfulness.

Lightnings, Voices, Thunderings, Earthquake, and Hail:These phenomena represent the powerful and awe-inspiring presence of God. Throughout the book of Revelation, such manifestations occur to signal important events and judgments. They convey the idea that God’s presence and actions are accompanied by power and authority.

Symbolic Interpretation:This verse portrays the heavenly perspective and highlights the continuity between the earthly and heavenly realms. The opening of the temple signifies access to God’s presence and the unveiling of His divine plan. The ark of the testament symbolizes God’s covenant faithfulness and His enduring Word.

Spiritual Significance:The imagery of lightnings, voices, thunderings, earthquake, and hail portrays the majesty and authority of God. It reminds believers that God’s promises are certain, His Word is unchanging, and His judgments are just. It also serves as a reminder of His power and sovereignty.

Application:Revelation 11:19 reminds us of the eternal nature of God’s covenant and His faithfulness to His people. It encourages us to seek His presence, study His Word, and trust in His promises. Additionally, it reminds us of the awesome power and authority of God, which should inspire reverence and worship.

  • In summary, Revelation 11:19 in the KJV describes the opening of the temple of God in heaven, the appearance of the ark of His testament, and the accompanying manifestations of God’s power. It symbolizes God’s faithfulness to His covenant and emphasizes His sovereignty and authority. As believers, we should seek God’s presence, trust in His promises, and worship Him with reverence.
