Revelation 18:24

Posted on 18 May at 14:19

“And in her was found the blood of prophets, and of saints, and of all that were slain upon the earth.”

This verse is part of a larger passage describing the judgment and downfall of Babylon, which is a symbolic representation of a great and corrupt city. The book of Revelation is highly symbolic and apocalyptic in nature, so it’s important to interpret this verse in light of the broader context and themes presented in the book.

In Revelation, Babylon represents a worldly system or a city that is characterized by evil, idolatry, and rebellion against God. The verse highlights the severe judgment that Babylon will face because of its role in shedding the blood of prophets, saints, and all those who were killed unjustly on the earth.

Blood of Prophets:Throughout the history of God’s people, there were instances where prophets were persecuted, rejected, and even killed because of their messages. This verse suggests that Babylon has been complicit in the persecution and shedding of the blood of these prophets, indicating the city’s opposition to God’s messengers and His divine truth.

Blood of Saints:The blood of saints refers to the persecution and martyrdom of believers who faithfully follow God and His teachings. This verse implies that Babylon has been responsible for the suffering and death of those who are committed to their faith, emphasizing the city’s hostility towards true believers.

All Slain upon the Earth:This phrase emphasizes the comprehensive nature of Babylon’s guilt. It suggests that the city is responsible not only for the bloodshed of prophets and saints but also for the shedding of innocent blood in general. Babylon, as a symbol of a corrupt system, is seen as culpable for the widespread violence and injustice in the world.

The verse serves as a reminder that God is just and will ultimately hold accountable those who oppose Him and perpetrate evil. It also highlights the ultimate judgment and downfall of Babylon, which is depicted in Revelation as a divine act of justice and a triumph of God’s kingdom.

Overall, Revelation 18:24 emphasizes the severity of Babylon’s guilt in shedding the blood of prophets, saints, and all those who were slain unjustly. It reminds us of the consequences that await those who oppose God and commit acts of violence and injustice. It also offers hope to believers that God’s justice will prevail and ultimately bring an end to all forms of evil.
