Revelation 19:6

Posted on 18 May at 14:19
Listen to this article

“And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying, Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth.”

This verse is part of the larger context of the book of Revelation, which is the last book of the New Testament and contains apocalyptic visions given to the Apostle John. Revelation 19 depicts the rejoicing in heaven over the fall of Babylon and the impending return of Jesus Christ in glory.

In verse 6, John describes hearing the voice of a great multitude, comparable to the sound of many waters and mighty thunderings. This emphasizes the magnitude and power of the voices, conveying a sense of awe and reverence. The multitude utters the word “Alleluia” (Hallelujah in Hebrew), which is an exclamation of praise and adoration, often used in worship. The reason for their praise is that the Lord God omnipotent reigns.

This verse serves as a proclamation of God’s sovereignty and kingship. The title “Lord God omnipotent” signifies God’s all-powerful nature and complete authority over all creation. Despite the tribulations and challenges faced by believers on earth, this declaration affirms that God is ultimately in control and His reign is secure.

The imagery of the voices as many waters and mighty thunderings suggests the grandeur and majesty of God’s rule. It conveys the idea that His reign is not only powerful but also resonates throughout the entire universe. This image is reminiscent of the scene described in Revelation 1:15, where the voice of the glorified Jesus is likened to the sound of many waters.

Overall, Revelation 19:6 emphasizes the triumphant praise offered to God by a multitude in heaven. It reminds believers of God’s omnipotence and serves as a declaration of His sovereign reign. This verse encourages believers to place their trust in God’s authority and to worship Him with reverence and adoration, even in the midst of trials and challenges.
