Revelation 2:22

Behold, I will cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, except they repent of their deeds.

Meaning

The “bed” in this verse is not a bed of ease but a bed of sickness, pain, and affliction. It stands in deliberate contrast to the bed of luxury, adultery, and idolatry in which she indulged; the place of her sin becomes the place of her punishment. The Greek present tense (“I cast”) emphasizes the certainty of the coming judgment. Those who “commit adultery with her” are those who are seduced by her teachings and participate in her sins, either by actively joining in or by tolerating and thus encouraging her. The judgment on her partners is “great tribulation,” a severe distress.

Biblical connections

The name “Jezebel” is symbolic, drawing a parallel to the Old Testament queen who promoted idol worship and persecuted God’s prophets (1 Kings 16). In the same way, the woman in Thyatira was leading people astray and encouraging practices contrary to God’s commands.
