Revelation 6:10

Posted on 18 May at 14:21
Listen to this article

“And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth?”

This verse is part of a larger passage known as the Fifth Seal, which is found in Revelation 6:9-11. In this passage, John the Apostle sees a vision of the opening of the seals of a scroll, which represents God’s plan for the future.

In Revelation 6:10, we see the souls of those who had been martyred for their faith crying out to God for justice. These are the souls of the saints, who were killed because of their testimony and their unwavering commitment to God. They are depicted as crying out with a loud voice, expressing their desire for God to avenge their blood.

Let’s break down the key elements of this verse:

Crying with a loud voice:The intensity and urgency of their cry indicate their deep longing for justice. They are not whispering or murmuring, but rather raising their voices to be heard by the Lord.

How long, O Lord:This question expresses their longing for the resolution of their suffering and their desire for God’s justice to be manifested. They are looking forward to the time when God will act and bring justice to the earth.

Holy and true:The souls acknowledge the holiness and truthfulness of God. They address Him with reverence and recognize His absolute righteousness.

Judge and avenge our blood:The souls request that God judges and avenges their blood, seeking retribution for the injustices committed against them. They desire God to act on their behalf, bringing righteous judgment upon those responsible for their suffering.

It is important to note that this verse does not provide a specific answer to their question of “How long?” Their cry reflects their longing for justice and their faith in God’s righteous judgment. The timing of God’s judgment is ultimately in His hands, and throughout the book of Revelation, we see that God’s plans and timing are beyond human understanding.

This passage serves as a reminder to believers that God is aware of the sufferings of His people and that He will bring justice in His perfect timing. It also encourages believers to persevere in their faith, even in the face of persecution, trusting that God sees their pain and will ultimately make all things right.

Overall, Revelation 6:10 highlights the cry of the martyred saints for God’s justice and reminds believers of God’s faithfulness, holiness, and ultimate sovereignty in fulfilling His plans.
