Revelation 6:11
“And white robes were given unto every one of them; and it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little season, until their fellow servants also and their brethren, that should be killed as they were, should be fulfilled.”
Revelation 6:11 is a verse found within the context of the opening of the seals in the book of Revelation, where the apostle John receives a vision of the end times and the events leading up to the return of Jesus Christ. This particular verse follows the opening of the fifth seal.
The preceding verses describe the souls of the martyrs who were slain for the word of God and their testimony, crying out for justice and asking God how long it would be before He avenges their blood. In response to their cry, white robes are given to each of them, symbolizing purity, righteousness, and victory. This indicates that these martyrs have been redeemed and have received their heavenly reward.
The second part of the verse reveals that they are instructed to “rest yet for a little season.” This suggests that although they have received their reward, their work is not yet complete. They are told to wait for a little while longer until their fellow servants and brethren, who would also face persecution and martyrdom, have been fulfilled. This implies that there will be others who will suffer for their faith in the future, and the fulfilment of God’s plan will include their inclusion in the heavenly reward.
This verse emphasizes several important themes found throughout the book of Revelation. It highlights the faithfulness and sacrifice of believers who endure persecution and even death for their faith. It also underscores the concept of divine justice and the assurance that God will ultimately avenge the blood of His faithful servants. Furthermore, it conveys the idea of a future time when all believers, past and future, will be united in their heavenly reward.
