Romans 16:20

Posted on 18 May at 14:31

“And the God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.”

Context:The book of Romans was written by the Apostle Paul to the believers in Rome. It addresses various theological and practical matters concerning salvation, righteousness, and the Christian life.

The God of Peace:In this verse, Paul refers to God as the "God of peace." It emphasizes that God is the source of true peace and reconciliation. Through the redemptive work of Jesus Christ, God has made a way for humanity to find peace with Him.

Bruising Satan under your feet:The verse speaks of the ultimate defeat of Satan by God. It symbolizes the victory of Christ and His followers over the powers of darkness. This victory was accomplished through Jesus’ death and resurrection, where He dealt a decisive blow to the enemy’s power and authority.

Shortly:The word "shortly" indicates that the defeat of Satan is certain and imminent. Although it does not specify a specific timeline, it conveys the assurance that God’s victory over evil is sure to come. It reminds believers that they can have confidence in God’s promises and the ultimate triumph of His kingdom.

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you:Paul concludes the verse by extending a prayer for the grace of Jesus Christ to be with the believers. Grace refers to God’s unmerited favour and blessings upon His people. It is through God’s grace that believers are saved, sustained, and empowered to live for Him.

Overall, Romans 16:20 conveys a message of hope, assurance, and victory for believers. It reminds us that God, the God of peace, will ultimately defeat Satan and that His grace is available to strengthen and sustain us in our journey of faith.
