Destruction & misery are in their wayes: Romans 3:16 (KJV)

“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23 (KJV) is a powerful and foundational verse that highlights the universal condition of humanity. It emphasizes that every person, regardless of background, has sinned and falls short of the glory of God. This verse is part of a larger passage in the book of Romans where the Apostle Paul addresses human sinfulness and the need for salvation through faith in Jesus Christ. In the preceding verses Paul explains that both Jews and Gentiles are under sin and are accountable before God, quoting several Old Testament passages to support his argument. Romans 3:23 serves as a reminder of our inherent need for a Savior. It underscores the fact that no one is exempt from sin and its consequences. Regardless of achievements, social status, or moral character, we all stand in need of God’s forgiveness and redemption. The verse also points to the universal need for salvation, emphasizing that no one is righteous enough to earn God’s favor or attain salvation through personal effort. It humbles us and helps us realize our dependency on God’s grace and mercy. Paul goes on to explain the remedy for our sinfulness in the following verses, proclaiming the redemption and justification that are available through faith in Jesus Christ. This teaching calls every reader to acknowledge personal failure, to trust wholly in Christ’s atoning work, and to live in grateful obedience to the grace that has been freely given.
