Which hee shed on vs abundantly, through Iesus Christ our Sauiour: Titus 3:6 (KJV)

Certainly! Let us delve into a Bible study on Titus 3:6, using the King James Version. This verse is found in the New Testament, in the letter of Paul to Titus, and forms part of the larger passage of Titus 3:4‑7 where Paul describes how God, by His mercy, has saved believers, regenerated them, and renewed them by the Holy Spirit.

The phrase “Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour” points to the generous outpouring of God’s mercy. The word “shed” conveys an image of pouring forth, indicating that God’s mercy is given abundantly to believers. In the immediate context, “Which” refers to the renewing of the Holy Ghost mentioned in the preceding verse, so the outpouring is understood as the work of the Holy Spirit lavished upon us.

Two complementary emphases emerge. First, the verse highlights that this abundant mercy is “through Jesus Christ our Saviour,” presenting Christ as the channel through which the Holy Spirit is manifested and accessed. Second, the wording “according to his mercy” underscores that the outpouring is rooted in God’s compassionate character rather than any human merit.

Both drafts note that the passage does not attribute the outpouring to human effort. As Paul teaches elsewhere (Ephesians 2:8‑9), we are saved by grace, not by works. Recognizing that God’s mercy is poured out abundantly should lead believers to respond with gratitude, humility, and a desire to live transformed lives that reflect that mercy and grace.

In practical terms, this means cultivating a life marked by thankfulness for the Holy Spirit’s renewing work, allowing the Spirit to shape our character, and living out the salvation we have received in a way that honors Jesus Christ, our Saviour.
