Zechariah 8:18
And the word of the Lord of hostes came vnto me, saying, Zechariah 8:18 (KJV)
Context: Zecharah was a prophet who delivered messages from the Lord to the returned exiles in Jerusalem after the Babylonian captivity. In the preceding verses, Zechariah spoke about the restoration and blessings that the Lord would bring to Jerusalem. In verse 18, the word of the Lord of hosts comes to Zechariah, continuing the message of hope and restoration. The title “Lord of hosts” refers to God’s authority and power over all creation, including the heavenly hosts (angels) and earthly armies, emphasizing God’s sovereignty and the fact that He is the commander of all. Throughout the Bible, the word of the Lord plays a vital role; it represents God’s communication with His people, His divine instructions, and His promises. When the word of the Lord comes to Zechariah, it signifies that God is speaking directly to him, giving him a message to convey to the people. Though Zechariah’s message was originally intended for the people of his time, there are lessons we can draw from this verse today. It reminds us that God desires to communicate with His people and that His word is a source of guidance, comfort, and encouragement. When we study and meditate on God’s word, we can hear His voice and receive His direction for our lives. As believers, it is important for us to prioritise reading and studying the Scriptures regularly. The Bible is God’s revealed word to us, and through it we can gain a deeper understanding of His character and His will for our lives. We should approach the Bible with reverence, seeking to hear God’s voice and obey His commands. By doing so, we can experience the blessings and restoration that God promises to His people.
