1 Chronicles 16:10

Posted on 18 May at 11:30

“Glory ye in his holy name: let the heart of them rejoice that seek the LORD.”

Glory ye in his holy name:let the heart of them rejoice that seek the LORD. 1 Chronicles 16:10 (KJV)

This verse is taken from the book of 1 Chronicles, which is a historical book in the Old Testament of the Bible. It contains the genealogies of the Israelite tribes and focuses on the reign of King David. In this particular verse, we find a call to rejoice and give glory to the holy name of the Lord.

Glory in His Holy Name: The verse begins by urging us to “glory ye in his holy name.” The term “glory” refers to giving honor, praise, and exaltation. God’s name represents His character and nature. It signifies who He is and His attributes. Therefore, to “glory in his holy name” means to celebrate and honor the Lord for who He is.

Rejoice in Seeking the Lord: The second part of the verse says, “let the heart of them rejoice that seek the LORD.” Here, we are encouraged to find joy and gladness in seeking the Lord. Seeking the Lord implies pursuing a relationship with Him, desiring His presence, and aligning our lives with His will. The joy comes not only from finding the Lord but also from the process of seeking Him.

Now, let’s explore the broader context of this verse within the chapter: Chronicles 16 is a chapter dedicated to the joyful celebration and thanksgiving of the Israelites after the Ark of the Covenant was brought to Jerusalem. It recounts the events surrounding the Ark’s arrival and the worship that David organized. The chapter includes David’s psalm of thanksgiving, which praises God for His mighty works and faithfulness to His people.

Verse 10 falls within this context, and it serves as an exhortation to the people to rejoice and give glory to God. It reminds them that true joy is found in seeking the Lord and acknowledging His holiness.
