1 Chronicles 27:19

Posted on 18 May at 11:31

“Of Zebulun, Ishmaiah the son of Obadiah: of Naphtali, Jerimoth the son of Azriel: 1 Chronicles 27:19 (KJV)”

Context:The book of 1 Chronicles is a historical account that traces the lineage of the Israelites from Adam to the time of King David. It includes genealogies, lists of military divisions, and various administrative records. In this specific chapter, 1 Chronicles 27, the chapter focuses on the division of the Israelite army into twelve groups, each responsible for serving one month of the year.

Tribes and Leaders:1 Chronicles 27:19 specifically mentions two tribes: Zebulun and Naphtali. These tribes were two of the twelve tribes of Israel, descended from the sons of Jacob (Israel). Each tribe had its own leader or captain who oversaw military affairs for a specific period.

Ishmaiah, the Son of Obadiah:Ishmaiah is mentioned as the leader from the tribe of Zebulun. He was the son of Obadiah. While not much information is provided about Ishmaiah in the Bible, this verse highlights his role as a military leader within the tribe of Zebulun.

Jerimoth, the Son of Azriel:Jerimoth is mentioned as the leader from the tribe of Naphtali, and he was the son of Azriel. Like Ishmaiah, Jerimoth is not extensively mentioned elsewhere in the Bible. Here, he is specifically noted as a leader from the tribe of Naphtali.

  • Additionally, this verse reminds us of the significance of genealogies and lineage within the Hebrew Bible. It underscores the importance placed on tracing one’s ancestry and recognising the various tribes and their leaders.

Overall, 1 Chronicles 27:19 provides a snapshot of the organisation and structure of the Israelite army and serves as a reminder of the historical and genealogical aspects of the Old Testament.
